KUALA LUMPUR: KL Wellness City (KLWC) held a send-off ceremony at the KL Wellness City Gallery to honour athletes representing Malaysia at two major international endurance sporting events, the PUMA HYROX World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden (2026) and Challenge Roth in Germany (2026).

The event was officiated by Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Mordi Anak Bimol, who praised the athletes’ dedication and KL Wellness City’s role in fostering a strong national wellness and sporting ecosystem.

“It is truly inspiring to see Malaysian athletes stepping onto the world stage with such determination and passion.

“Their commitment reflects the spirit of Malaysia Madani, where resilience, discipline and unity drive us forward,” he said.

He added that KL Wellness City’s efforts in promoting active lifestyles contribute meaningfully to national aspirations in health and sports development.

The HYROX World Championships will take place from June 18 to 21 at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, bringing together elite competitors from around the world. Challenge Roth, one of the world’s most prestigious long-distance triathlons, will follow on July 5 in Roth, Germany.

Ten athletes from the KL Wellness City community will represent Malaysia at the events, ranging in age from 25 to 70, with most participants aged above 50.

The ceremony was graced by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mordi Anak Bimol, who officiated the event and offered his encouragement to the athletes as they prepare to compete on the global stage.

The contingent reflects a diverse group of professionals and endurance athletes who have balanced careers, personal commitments and structured training programmes.

KL Wellness City said their participation highlights a broader message that fitness and competitive sport can be sustained across all stages of life, reinforcing wellness as a lifelong pursuit.

The athletes’ preparations have been supported through KL Wellness City’s community wellness initiatives, including regular training sessions, fitness activities and athlete meet-ups.

HYROX-specific training was also conducted at Pahlawan Gym in Citta Mall, Ara Damansara.

The send-off ceremony was also supported by strategic partners including Vanilla Crepe, Kinohimitsu, COWA, O’Briens, Famous Amos, Anemos and SQL by EIST System.

KL Wellness City Executive Director Dato’ Sri Dr Vincent Tiew, who is also part of the competing contingent, said the athletes’ dedication reflects the values of discipline and resilience central to endurance sports.

“Having participated in multiple HYROX races and Ironman triathlons myself, I understand the commitment required at this level.

“We are proud to support these athletes as they represent Malaysia on the world stage,” he said.

Vincent added that KL Wellness City’s vision extends beyond healthcare infrastructure, focusing instead on building a lifestyle-driven wellness ecosystem that promotes active living, preventive health and holistic well-being.

Among those representing Malaysia at HYROX Stockholm are Tan Ay Bing, Terence Poon Chau Chun, Dr Yeap Jing Eng, Yeap Jing Ching, Yeap Jing Nee, Lee Ho Kiat, Kyle See and Mandy Chai.

At Challenge Roth, the Malaysian representatives include Vincent and Ng Choon Keith.

KL Wellness City said the initiative highlights its ongoing commitment to sports development, wellness advocacy and community engagement, as Malaysia continues to encourage greater participation in international sporting events.
