Event in Selangor brings together students, welfare homes and community leaders while marking new milestones in education, culture and social care.

SRI Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia (SSDI) recently hosted its SSDI Trinity Convocation 2026, bringing together children, alumni, welfare organisations, government representatives and community partners for an evening centred on education, culture and community service.

Held on May 16 in Selangor, the event highlighted the organisation’s ongoing efforts in child welfare and youth development, while also recognising student achievements in academics, arts and skills training.

The ceremony was attended by several public figures and community representatives, including Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who served as the official guest.

Other attendees included Batu MP P. Prabakaran, former minister P. Waytha Moorthy, representatives from youth and sports agencies, as well as community leaders and supporters.

The programme was led by the Sri Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia President Dr Kumaran Adaikalam, whose leadership was acknowledged throughout the event.

Organisers described the ceremony as both a celebration of student growth and a reflection of the organisation’s broader mission in welfare, education and cultural development.

The evening featured cultural performances, including Bharatham dance, Veenai music and Silambam demonstrations, showcasing the students’ involvement in traditional arts alongside academic pursuits. Guests were also shown an audiovisual presentation highlighting SSDI’s journey and community work over the years.

One of the central moments of the ceremony was a stage gathering involving more than 170 children from SSDI and invited welfare homes during a symbolic cake-cutting session, intended to reflect unity and shared celebration among the participating organisations.

Students were also recognised through the Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia Convocation segment, where participants received acknowledgements for diploma and Level 3 skills certifications.

The recognitions were presented as part of efforts to encourage educational and vocational development among the children.

The event additionally marked the launch of ‘Di Sini Bermulanya Sebuah Mimpi’, a book written by Dr Suresh Kumar N Vellymalay documenting the history and experiences connected to SSDI and its community work.

Another key announcement during the ceremony involved SSDI’s plans to expand into elderly care services. Organisers held a symbolic mock key presentation for a new elderly care home initiative established in memory of the late parents of Thirunavukkarasu.

According to SSDI, the initiative represents a broader effort to extend its welfare services beyond childcare and youth support.

The ceremony also included presentations linked to the Amazing Malaysian Book of Records, recognising achievements connected to SSDI students and alumni in areas such as Bharatham, Silambam and skills education.

The night concluded with speeches from student representatives and a closing segment focused on continuity, gratitude and community support.

Organisers expressed appreciation to sponsors, volunteers, government agencies, donors and partner organisations that contributed to the event’s success.
