A viral video of wild boars roaming in Bukit Antarabangsa ignites sympathy online, with users blaming habitat loss from development for their presence

A viral video showing a group of wild boars roaming through a residential area in Bukit Antarabangsa at night has triggered discussion online, with many social media users sympathising with the animals and pointing to habitat loss as a possible reason for their increasing presence.

The video was shared by a local resident, who claimed the animals have become a regular sight in the neighbourhood.

“This is what the residents of Taman Kelab Ukay, Bukit Antarabangsa have to face every night,” the individual wrote in the post.

According to the resident, the number of wild boars in the area has been increasing, creating challenges for people living in the neighbourhood.

The resident claimed that households had resorted to keeping rubbish bins within their compounds to avoid attracting the animals.

“If not, they will get ‘attacked’, and the next day we have to clean up,” the individual wrote.

While some users expressed concern about the impact on residents, many others felt the animals were being unfairly blamed, arguing that urban development had disrupted their natural habitats.

One social media user revealed that Bukit Antarabangsa is located near forested areas and questioned whether continued development could have displaced wildlife.

“If the area has been developed to build houses, then it is not surprising that wild boars are coming out. Their habitats were destroyed, and as human beings, we should be ashamed,” the user wrote.

Others echoed similar sentiments, saying animals were simply adapting to changes in their environment.

“Humans are greedy and disturb their habitat, so the animals do not know where their home is. Humans destroy nature; animals only know to find food,” another user commented.

Several users also urged compassion towards wildlife, pointing out that development often leaves animals with fewer places to live and forage.

“Please have compassion. Many animals are suffering because they have no homes due to development,” one commenter wrote.

Another user suggested that if food sources remained sufficient in forested areas, the animals might not venture into residential neighbourhoods.

Some users responded with humour amid the discussion.

One individual shared a pencil sketch of animals such as squirrels and birds alongside the caption: “Do not destroy my home and then ask why I wander into yours.”

Another user jokingly suggested that residents should become “good neighbours” to the boars after “taking away their habitat”.

As the animals were seen crossing near a kindergarten, another commenter quipped that the wild boars were “conducting a survey at the kindergarten for their baby boars”.
