Khairul Aming defends Rembayung’s online-only reservation system, citing impracticalities of walk-ins due to heat, traffic, and crowd safety.

LOCAL entrepreneur and influencer Khairul Aming has defended the decision to implement an online-only reservation system at his newly launched restaurant, Rembayung, after suggestions surfaced on social media calling for walk-in access instead of pre-bookings.

The discussion began on Threads, where a user proposed that the restaurant should allow customers to queue physically at the premises.

However, Khairul Aming responded by explaining that such a system would be impractical given the restaurant’s location and surrounding conditions, which are not designed to handle large, spontaneous crowds.

He stressed that a walk-in model could create discomfort for diners and operational strain for nearby businesses and residents.

“The reason I don’t allow walk-ins at Rembayung is because the location is different. It’s not the same as queuing inside a mall with air-conditioning compared to lining up by the roadside under the hot sun.

“Elderly people will get tired, young children will cry, it will be difficult to use the toilet and it will also be hard to pray.

“On top of that, there are parking and traffic issues that could disturb nearby businesses and residents,” he wrote.

He added that the reservation system is intended to ensure smoother operations and a better dining experience for customers.

“With reservations, customers can get out of their cars and walk straight into the restaurant.

“There is no need to queue, and a table is guaranteed for customers. We want to prioritise customer comfort,” he stated.

His remarks have since received widespread support from netizens in the comment section.

“Imagine if walk-ins were allowed… you’d have to look for parking far away, only to find the place already full, and that would end up making customers angry. Honestly, think about it. Try to be patient, if it’s meant to be, you’ll still get a slot later. If you want to give your opinion, make sure to think it through properly as well,” one user called e.shyn wrote.

“Instead of queuing in the hot sun, it’s better to queue in front of a laptop fighting for a slot. Guys, just be patient, sooner or later things will calm down, and those of us who didn’t manage to eat will get our chance. But maybe only next year or in two years’ time,” syahirah_off commented jokingly.
