Two policemen were hurt while arresting a suspected drug addict in Selama, Perak, after he allegedly attacked them with a knife.
IPOH: Two policemen were injured after a scuffle with a suspected drug addict in Kampung Sungai Jernih, Ijok near Selama, yesterday.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said that, acting on information, the Selama district police headquarters (IPD) deployed a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at noon to monitor the suspect’s movement before making an arrest.
“While being arrested, the suspect acted aggressively and attacked the police with a sharp weapon, believed to be a knife, before fleeing the scene.
“Two police officers, a 44-year-old Sergeant and a 27-year-old Constable, sustained injuries in the struggle with the suspect and have since received hospital treatment,” he said in a statement today.
He said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect.
Mohd Alwi said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
“Any information related to the incident can be channelled to the Selama IPD operations room at 05-8395999 or any nearby police station,” he said.
