‘Based on what I’ve seen so far, Malaysia is far ahead of the Philippines in terms of infrastructure, public transport, cleanliness, and overall convenience.’
A FILIPINO tourist’s social media thread gushing over Malaysia’s infrastructure, cleanliness and public transport system has gone viral recently.
The post, shared by user tmanatad on Threads, shared that he had often been told that Malaysia was not much different from the Philippines and that anyone planning to move abroad should consider other destinations instead.
However, after spending time in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Genting Highlands, he said his impressions were completely different.
“The first thing that stood out to me was how developed everything feels. The buildings are impressive, public transport is efficient, and everything just seems to work. Life here feels a lot more convenient.”
He explained that despite being a first-time visitor, he found the buses, monorails and trains are easy to use and barely had to ask anyone for directions.
“There are signs everywhere, so getting around is straightforward even if it’s your first time here.

“The buses are also very safe and comfortable. The drivers don’t seem to speed, and the rides are smooth and relaxed. No sudden braking, no reckless driving, just a comfortable journey from start to finish.”
But what truly impressed him was the cleanliness; he noticed that people would dispose of their trash in a proper manner and the streets, stations, and public spaces are clean and well-maintained.
“Even the bus terminals caught me by surprise. At one point, I felt like I was in an airport. They’re air-conditioned, organised, and everything is clearly laid out. People queue properly, and there’s none of the chaos that we’re so used to seeing back home.”
Comparing Malaysia with other Southeast Asian destinations he had visited, including Vietnam and Thailand, he said Malaysia would be his preferred choice if he were to settle down abroad.
“The quality of life, convenience, and ease of getting around without needing a car really stand out,” he wrote.
While largely positive about his experience, he jokingly noted that occasional body odour on crowded public transport was one of the few things that reminded him he was experiencing everyday life.
The traveller said his observations also made him reflect on conditions in his home country.
“Based on what I’ve seen so far, Malaysia is far ahead of the Philippines in terms of infrastructure, public transport, cleanliness and overall convenience.
“Every time I travel to another country, I can’t help but think about how much better things could be back home,” he wrote.
