GWM’s premium brand, Wey, currently has a sole offering in Malaysia in the form of the Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV MPV but that will soon double following confirmation that the Wey V9X flagship PHEV SUV will make its way here.
Wey’s flagship model rides on the new GMW One platform and is available in three variants with different electric motors and battery sizes.

The only commonality is the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine making 238 PS, mated to a dedicated 4-speed hybrid transmission.
Apart from the petrol engine, there will be dual electric motors on each axle, 800 V architecture and ultra-fast 6C charging capability.

The three variants and their electric motors are as follows:
- Front 136 PS + Rear 229 PS, total output 680 PS
- Front 136 PS + Rear 326 PS, total output 693 PS
- Front 150 PS + Rear 367 PS, total output 748 PS

Even the battery pack differ between the variant with the ranges all on the CLTC cycle:
- 66.6 kWh, 402 km (electric), 1,632 km (combined)
- 55.4 kWh, 310 km (electric), 1,656 km (combined)
- 80 kWh, 470 (electric), 1,700 km (combined)

Shining the way forward is the Hi Light intelligent headlight system with six driving assistance projection scenarios and various welcome animations. The layered three-dimensional taillights are constructed from over 100 lighting elements.
Inside, the cabin is fitted with massive dual 17.3-inch central and passenger screens while the driver is fed by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The lucky rear occupants get a 21.4-inch rear display, powered by the Qualcomm 8295P chip.

Audio quality is elevated with the Coffee AI Sound audio system and its 31 rare-earth magnetic speakers and peak amplifier power of 3,080 W.
All six seats are wrapped in Nappa leather with the second-row right seat featuring a zero-gravity ‘King Chair’ and 22-point massage functionality.

As the flagship, the V9X is fitted with 27 high-performance sensors, the Thor-U autonomous driving chip delivering 700 TOPS of computing power and a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) large model.
Ride is managed by self-developed closed dual-chamber air suspension, EDC continuously variable damping shock absorbers and 20-degree rear-wheel steering to reduce the turning circle.

Prior to this, Wey’s range has exclusively been PHEV powertrains but the V9X will change that with HEV and EV variants that are slated to be launched later in the year.
In China, prices for the V9X range between 53,900-59,700 USD (~RM 214,000-RM237,000). For reference, the Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV in Malaysia starts at RM 269,800.
