Sleeping tiger steals spotlight after zoo visitor shares humorous observation online
A WOMAN who recently visited a local zoo was left amused after spotting a tiger, or harimau belang, fast asleep despite information stating that the animal is most active at night.
Although slightly disappointed, she took to Threads with a light-hearted post, joking: “They said the animal is active at night, but it looks like its only job is sleeping.”

She also shared a photo of an information board explaining that the tiger is nocturnal and typically active for only four to eight hours a day.
The post quickly attracted attention online, with netizens sharing their own zoo experiences. Some posted photos of tigers roaming actively during their visits, while others shared images of the animals sleeping peacefully.
One netizen pointed out that animal behaviour is not strictly fixed. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s day or night. The tiger follows its own body clock. Tigers and lions spend more time sleeping than being awake,” the commenter wrote.
Others offered humorous explanations for the tiger’s behaviour.
“Tigers are active at night to hunt for food, but this one lives in a zoo. Why would it need to hunt?” one user joked.
Another added that the animal is regularly fed, leaving little reason to roam in search of food, and therefore spends most of its time resting.
Meanwhile, some netizens jokingly suggested that the visitor should have tried waking the tiger up since she had paid for her zoo ticket.
