A jogger in Malaysia is praised online after rescuing a blind puppy trapped in a drain, sparking kindness and religious clarifications.

A man has received widespread praise online after stopping his run to help rescue a puppy believed to be blind that had become trapped in a drain.

The heartwarming moment was shared on Threads by @albudhamil and has since garnered more than 42,000 likes and over 1,500 comments, with many Malaysians applauding his compassion towards the animal.

“My run got interrupted,” the user joked in the caption.

The video showed the jogger crouching beside a drain while carefully attempting to reach the frightened puppy.

User @ani.oxs suggested that the dog may have been blind, claiming it appeared disoriented and unable to escape on its own.

“It can walk, but it wasn’t moving inside the drain because it could sense the walls on both sides. It’s blind,” she wrote.

Others urged the public to seek medical treatment and rescue assistance for the puppy.

“OP, please reach out to MIAR at 016-997 5301. The dog looks blind. Its eyes look cloudy and it probably didn’t see the drain,” @aida.ideris wrote.

“Can anyone help bring it to a vet? Or at least the abang in the video. We can crowdfund,” @serafina.amelia suggested.

Many users also thanked the jogger for stopping to help, rather than ignoring the situation.

Malaysian singer Mohammad Noh Salleh also expressed his appreciation for the user’s actions, commenting: “Love u bro.”

“Thank you, abang. May all your affairs always be eased,” @faraa.rose1 commented.

“Thank you for being kind and stopping just to help the dog. We always see people abusing or hurting dogs. It’s nice seeing something different and kind instead,” @_straycatz added.

Some commenters also used the opportunity to clarify common misunderstandings among Muslims regarding touching dogs, particularly during emergencies involving injured or endangered animals.

User @nadzmienasirr wrote: “Next time, if you see a dog like this and want to rescue it, just hold it first and do ‘sertu’ afterwards. It’s not haram to the point that you cannot touch them at all. Good job abang, showing compassion towards animals.”

“In situations like this, where it’s about saving a life and there are no non-Muslims around to help, you can just touch the dog and save it first. Afterwards, you can do sertu,” @db_sticker_online added.

Others hoped the puppy would recover safely and receive proper care.

User @bella.rohaizad expressed concern, writing: “You’re a kind soul. We need updates on the dog. I’m worried it may have been abused and abandoned there.”

“Poor dog. Who knows how long it had been lying there, hungry, unable to see anything and not knowing what would happen,” @nsfqhss added.
