Karl Urban joins Mortal Kombat II as Earthrealm’s champions face Shao Kahn in a deadly tournament.
NEW Line Cinema has released details for Mortal Kombat II, the latest film based on the blockbuster video game franchise.
Directed by Simon McQuoid, the sequel brings Earthrealm’s champions back into battle as they face Shao Kahn, whose rule threatens the realm and its defenders.

The film also introduces Urban as Johnny Cage, a faded Hollywood action star who is drawn into the fight after learning he has a role to play in defending Earthrealm.
The story follows the champions as they enter a larger, bloodier conflict involving Outworld, the Netherrealm and a tournament that will decide the fate of Earthrealm.
The sequel expands on the 2021 film with more characters, larger worlds and a stronger focus on the tournament element from the games.
The cast also includes Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada.
McQuoid directs from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film is produced by Todd Garner, E Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich and McQuoid.
Mortal Kombat II opens internationally on May 6 in cinemas and IMAX.
