An employee declined a job offer from their former employer after they replaced the employee following 15 years of service.
A MALAYSIAN woman has initiated an online discussion after sharing what she described as a case of workplace karma involving a friend who was allegedly let go after 15 years with the same company.
In a Threads post, the woman claimed her friend was informed that their contract would not be renewed as the company had already found a replacement.
After more than a decade of service, the decision reportedly came as a surprise.
However, the company’s plans soon ran into an unexpected setback.
“Yesterday, my friend’s company terminated their contract after 15 years of service because they said they had already found a replacement,” she wrote.
According to the post, the replacement candidate later withdrew after accepting another job offer elsewhere, leaving the position vacant again.
“Today, that replacement backed out after accepting another job offer.
“Then the company tried to offer the position back to my friend.
“My friend rejected it,” the post added.
The story quickly gained traction online, with many Malaysians sharing similar experiences of feeling undervalued despite long service at their workplaces.
One user, @mohdzamzuriprinting, said he had experienced a similar situation where a company replaced him at a lower salary, only for the new employee to later contact him for guidance.
“I’ve been through this before. My company let me go and hired someone new at a lower salary. The new employee even asked me how to do the work. I told them to figure it out themselves. Karma is real,” he wrote.
Another user, @zzlkmi, quipped that the former employee should have returned on better terms.
“The friend should have demanded double the pay before agreeing to return,” the user commented.
