The shop, named May Pet, is located right next to a Maybank branch.
A pet shop in Miri, Sarawak has got amused Malaysians on Threads after photos of its signboard went viral, with netizens marvelling at its uncanny resemblance to one of the country’s biggest banks.
Photos of the side-by-side storefronts were posted on Threads by user @bruchinoy under the caption, “Meanwhile in Miri, Sarawak. This is actually brilliant,” and the post has since amassed over 35,900 likes, with thousands of shares and comments pouring in from across the country.

The shop, named May Pet, is located right next to a Maybank branch. Its signboard sports the same yellow background, similar honeycomb detailing, and a cat face smack right in the centre – naturally capturing the attention of netizens who couldn’t help but compare the similarity between the bank and the logo’s pet shop.
Netizens were quick with the jokes.
One user quipped, “Walk out with cash ❌ Walk out with kibbles ✅,” while another noted wryly : “From Maybank the money comes, to May Pet the money disappears.”
The stunt has drawn comparisons to other examples of Sarawakian wit.
“One time I saw a signboard ‘Elon Mars’ at a foodcourt,” recalled one commenter.
The shop has even begun attracting visitors from beyond Sarawak’s borders. “I’m heading to Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei this Friday — might as well stop by for a photo,” wrote one.
