KUCHING: Firefighters are battling a large wildfire that has been burning through an oil palm plantation in Saratok district, with authorities estimating that about 20 hectares of land have been affected.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the blaze was first reported on Saturday and is burning in the Scheme C area of the plantation near Kampung Kupang.

“The fire is burning in the Scheme C area inside the oil palm plantation.
“The plantation is located near Kampung Kupang. At least 20 hectares have been affected since Saturday.
“Our firefighting teams are at the site working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further,” the department said.
The latest incident comes just months after Sarawak experienced a series of major forest and wildfire outbreaks across 11 districts during March and April.
Among the most severe was a forest fire in Tatau district, which authorities described as the state’s largest hotspot this year.
