GOMBAK: A total of 38,128 candidates, or 99.96% of those who sat for the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination, have qualified for the STPM certificate after obtaining at least a partial pass in one subject, according to the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM).
MPM chairman Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said that out of 40,199 registered candidates, 38,144 candidates (94.89%) sat for the examination.
He added that candidates from the Social Science stream formed the majority, with 35,774 candidates or 93.79% of those who sat for the examination, while 2,370 candidates (6.21%) were from the Science stream.
“General Studies, a compulsory subject, recorded the highest participation, with 38,083 candidates sitting for the paper,” he said.
Md Amin added that all 23 subjects offered in STPM 2025 recorded full-pass rates of more than 70%.
He said Arabic Language and Tamil Language showed improvements of more than three percentage points in full-pass performance compared with 2024, while Literature in English and Chinese Language recorded declines of more than three percentage points.
“The remaining 19 subjects maintained stable performance, with year-on-year differences of less than three percentage points,” he added.
Md Amin also emphasised that the STPM qualification continues to meet international standards.
“Since 1982, the STPM standard has been recognised as equivalent to the GCE A-Level administered by Cambridge University Press & Assessment in the United Kingdom, and its standards continue to be monitored through the STPM Certification Committee,” he said.
