DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke says the party will hold a national convention to reassess its direction and ensure its future strength
BUKIT MERTAJAM: DAP must reassess its direction and set a clear strategic path to ensure the continuity of its struggle.
Secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the party’s upcoming national convention will serve as a key platform for this purpose.
The convention is scheduled to be held in the next two to three months. Loke said it is a crucial moment for leaders and members to reflect and determine the party’s future direction.
He stressed that the party’s strength lies in the unity of its members at all levels. Loke made these remarks at the launch of DAP’s 60th anniversary celebration.
He noted that DAP has remained steadfast in its principles throughout six decades. This perseverance includes many challenging years spent in opposition.
“Even without power and resources in the past, we never gave up,” Loke said. He attributed the party’s enduring strength to this unwavering spirit.
Loke also highlighted the critical importance of leadership continuity for the party’s future. He called for greater opportunities for younger members to step forward and contribute.
“Without a new generation, the party has no future,” he stated. Loke emphasised the need to guide and provide space for young people to carry on the struggle.
Regarding Penang, Loke said the state must continue to serve as a model of diversity, justice and development. Penang is the only state governed by DAP.
He added that two major infrastructure projects will be prioritised over the next five years.
These are the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit project and the expansion of Penang International Airport.
Both projects are expected to drive growth and ensure the state’s continued progress.
