Malaysia’s durian season returns with prices as low as RM2 per kilogram, sparking excitement among fruit lovers nationwide

IT is durian season again, bringing what many Malaysians describe as a “durian runtuh” (unexpected windfall) for customers as prices appear lower than expected at roadside stalls and markets nationwide.

Durian vendors have returned in full force, offering a wide variety of popular types including Musang King, Black Thorn, D24, Red Prawn and kampung durians, giving customers plenty of choices as the seasonal fruit makes its comeback.

Social media has also been flooded with posts celebrating the season, with durian lovers actively hunting for affordable but good-quality fruit.

In one viral post on Threads, a woman shared photos of a lorry loaded with durians, claiming that a “durian festival” was offering prices as low as RM2 per kilogram in Bukit Sentosa, sparking excitement and scepticism among netizens.

Many users questioned the unusually low prices, with some asking whether the offer was genuine and how long it would last.

“Is the quality good? Until when is this offer? Is it selling tomorrow? Where is it?” several users commented, reflecting growing curiosity.

When asked whether the price was accurate, the author replied that smaller durians were being sold for RM2, while larger ones were priced at RM6.

While the authenticity of the pricing could not be independently verified, the post has nonetheless fuelled excitement online, with images of a lorry stacked high with durians and piles of fruit on the ground drawing attention.

As the durian season gains momentum, enthusiasts continue to celebrate what many see as one of Malaysia’s most anticipated fruit seasons, where affordability and abundance often go hand in hand.
