Foundation Day commemorates the starting point of TAR UMT
TUNKU Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) celebrated its 57th Foundation Day on 24th Feb 2026, commemorating the very first class held on 24th February 1969.
This marks nearly six decades since its first class, and TARC Education Foundation board of trustees chairman, Datuk Wee Ka Siong said today the college had grown to a distinguished university, providing not only high quality education but graduates able to succeed in industry.
“57 years ago, our founders worked with the strength and courage of a galloping horse to establish an institution dedicated to high-quality, affordable education for all Malaysians. Today, our ‘Beyond Education’ philosophy ensures our alumni are not only industry high-fliers but also grounded members of society who serve the needs of others,” he said.

The celebration proved highly significant as it coincided with the Lunar New Year season.
Wee noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a recent visit to the university, had emphasised that graduates must not only be intellectually competent, but also socially conscious and responsible.
The commemoration ceremony also included a special calligraphy session, with Wee and other board of trustee members, Tan Sri Datuk Liow Tiong Lai and Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon writing special CNY greetings to symbolise strength and success.
To conclude the celebration, the TAR UMT choir led the crowd in singing its iconic ‘Laman Song’, followed by the VIP’s cutting the Foundation Day cake.
